I have read many posts here about not being able to get into Recovery Mode with the M1 but none of them have solved my problem. The only thing I can do is shut down by holding the power button in. The mini flashes SOS red with the LED on the front. I did this but my machine will not display the Recovery Mode screen. but they all start with rebooting the M1 mini into Recovery Mode by Shutting down, then holding the power button in for 10 seconds. I see lot of discussion on this and ways to solve the install problem. I clicked on it and the update failed during the install. Then a few days ago it suggested an update to 11.5.1. I clicked on it and the update installed. MacMini M1 will not go into Recovery mode I bought a new MacMini M1 the other day and when I turned it on it suggested an update to os 11.4. To encrypt backups, see Use encrypted backups. Control-click the selected devices, and choose Back Up. Do one of the following: Click the Backup button in the toolbar. I know that the probable next option is taking it to Apple to let them look at it but what I would like to know is if someone has encountered this and there is something I'm missing that would allow me to do it myself. Connect one or more devices to a USB port on the Mac that has Apple Configurator installed, then select them in the device window. I have tried the method where I downloaded the ipsw file separately then dragged and dropped it into the DFU icon. I can't seem to find anything on any work arounds or things I might be doing incorrectly. In all cases, the result is the same: An error message (4014) and the information that it encountered an unexpected state 'DFU', but was expecting 'Recovery.' I watched the process closely, and in fact, the computer at one point switches from DFU (amber light) to Recovery (white light), but then it reverts back to DFU (amber) and then throws out the error. I after many failed attempts with the "Advanced>Revive" option, I decided to bite the bullet and "Advanced Restore." I have followed the steps for using Apple Configurator 2 to place my Mac Mini M1 in DFU mode. My Mac Mini M1 presented with an amber blinking light and would not boot up, even in Recovery mode.
